Carp
fishing has been very popular in the UK and Europe since the mid 20th
Century and it’s popularity is growing in the US where it is
slowly becoming as popular as Bass fishing. Carp can be found in most
UK lakes and rivers and is a very popular fish to catch due mainly to
its size. Over the years the equipment and techniques have improved
allowing bigger fish to be caught. The British record is currently
60lbs with a fish of 20lbs seen as the norm.
If your thinking of taking up this type of fishing then the most
affordable way to do this is by purchasing some used carp fishing
tackle. By doing it this way you will save considerably on
your initial
outlay and be in a position to buy newer equipment when the need must.
What
Fishing Tackle Do You Need?
So what fishing
tackle should you be looking to buy for Carp fishing.
The first piece will probably be the rod. More experienced
carp fishers
will tend to have more than one rod on the go at any one time. However,
as a beginner you will probably be best off starting with just the one,
having more than one rod will mean you will need two of
everything including reel, line and bait which maybe a bit expensive at
first. If you are
looking to fish Carp upto 15lbs then a rod, with a test curve of up to
2 lbs should be fine, for bigger fish you will need one with
a 3lb
test curve.
Carp reels will need to be matched to the rod you have chosen. If you
are
buying used carp fishing tackle then the reel will most likely have
been
used with the rod, but it is worth checking if you are buying
them as a set. Choosing a reel depends on the distance that you intend
to cast the line and its strength and diameter. The further the
distance the more line which will need to held by the reel.
The line you buy again depends on the type of fishing you are looking
to do and the reel you have. If you have a rod a which has a test curve
of say 2lbs then you should be looking for no less than a 10lbs line
If you are ever buying used
carp fishing tackle, one piece of equipment
you need to take a careful look at is the hook, check its sharp enough,
won’t bend or break easily, a poor hook will ultimately lead
to lost fish and plenty of frustration. It could be worth buying a new
hook rather than one which has already been used.
Weights are another piece of used carp fishing tackle that are well
worth picking up second hand. These come in a huge variety of types and
sizes. For Carp fishing the weights come in two types, in-line and the
bomb. The inline has a hole running down its length through which the
line is threaded, whereas the bomb usually has a swivel fixed into one
end, to which the line is attached.
These are just some of the main pieces of equipment you should be
looking to buy, however some other used
carp fishing tackle you may
want to consider are, rod holdalls, rucksacks, tackle boxes, rod rests
to name but a few.
Where's
The Best Place to Buy Used Carp Fishing Tackle?
The best place to buy used
carp fishing tackle is online. There are a
number of sites available that whilst selling new equipment also offer
good quality second hand tackle at a fraction of the price. To make
buying the tackle easier you may wish to purchase set of carping
equipment rather than buying each bit separately, at least this way you
know all the pieces should match. As well as these sites there are, of
course, the traditional internet auction sites where I am sure there is
a bargain or two, to be had
